I feel like my eyes have opened. I have been on a constant learning curve, yet I still got so much from this workshop. I think that teachers—new, veteran and in-between— can all benefit from the specific strategies for supporting English learners as writers from the get-go. I think this workshop happens at the right time for the summer, because with time off, I am excited about planning and implementing what I’ve learned.

BAWP Summer Programs for Educators are designed for teachers across experience, grade level, and discipline. Courses are facilitated by experienced BAWP teacher leaders, who draw upon their own classroom practice and expertise in the teaching of writing. True to the Writing Project approach, participants are guided through writing experiences and collegial discussions that highlight instructional strategies and examine student writing. By engaging in their own writing, teachers consider what  these experiences might mean for their classroom contexts.

BAWP courses support teachers to support their student writers -- increasing enthusiasm for writing, expanding the uses of writing in service of student learning, and building skills. Register today to deepen professional community, strengthen writing instruction, and get inspired!

If you are seeking an opportunity to re-energize your secondary Language Arts classroom, particularly in the area of writing instruction, this course is for you! This four-day class on the UC Berkeley campus recognizes the inherent challenges of teaching both struggling and advanced writers, often in the same classroom, as well as how AI is changing the face of writing instruction, posing new questions to educators. Through interactive, hands-on teacher demonstrations, you will experience classroom-tested and research-based approaches to the teaching of writing. You will have a chance to write and share writing in small groups, and this course also provides time and support to generate lessons based on district and/or site-approved curriculum and texts.
